Today, only about 50% of the material in a tree log is used to make new products. The rest is used for energy. Tomorrow, much of the material used for energy today will be refined and made into new products.
We can now separate the components of wood – lignin, hemi-cellulose and cellulose – and this is paving the way for a myriad of new applications that were previously not thought possible.
The potential applications are almost endless and give us the opportunity to replace plastics, metals and chemicals with wood-based alternatives.
